Sixty seconds with Phil Mackie…
Good SEO to me is creating high quality content for visitors that will be shared across the web. If your content is great, you will get more mileage out of it. Search Engine and the companies that maintain them have wizened up and if your content isn’t useful to readers, you will find yourself in the dark. Long gone are the days of cheating the system, so creating good linking structure and content that visitors will love is more important than ever.
Why does SEO appeal to you so much?
As others have said, SEO, as well as Marketing/Advertising as a whole, is a blend of art and science. I really like the idea of helping our clients achieve their goals in a very exciting and ever changing advertising medium. Additionally, puzzles and learning new things have always fascinated me and this is a great way for me to test myself to “crack the code” through experimentation and discovery.
When the Texas weather permits, I like to be outdoors. I try to get myself to run a few times a week, if I enjoy it, is a whole other question, though. My family are prolific chefs and BBQ masters. So, I try to get out to as many of their get-togethers at their house or fishing in the Gulf. I consider myself an amateur home chef, and really like trying out new recipes. To relax, playing guitar or video games is a great way to pass the time.
Three things that make you tick?
Most importantly, is my family. It’s difficult now that we are all living apart, but we manage to stay in touch and see each other as often as we can.
Music is an important aspect of my life as well, and I’m often listening to something or other.
Lastly, caffeine, in the form of coffee or tea, is an important ritual to my work day.
In Texas, BBQ is king. It wasn’t an easy decision, but tacos, fajitas, enchiladas and burritos are my favorite. The Mexican cuisine down here in South Texas is the best I’ve eaten, and you can’t beat a meal that is made with care, wrapped in a tortilla.
If you could host a dinner with any three people, who would you choose and why?
Firstly, meeting Anthony Boudain would be fun because he has been eveywhere in the world and most likely has a lot to say about his travels.
It would be interesting to meet Pope Francis, as he’s been in the news lately and seems like a decent guy.
Steve Albini is a famous music producer and has plenty of work with his various bands. I appreciate his commitment to his art and would be a character to meet in person.
If given the chance to skip work for a day, how would you spend the entire day?
I grew up in Florida, and I really miss being on and around the water. If I could I would take off to the beach or a bay or in a boat. In my opinion, there’s nothing like a long day out on the water with good friends and family, with a good dinner at the end of it all. I’d return to work the next day, feeling tired but pleased and inevitably a little sunburned.
