Director Digital Advertising
Sixty seconds with Bernard Somja…
In this day and age, business happens online. It can be any stage of the business: product research, price comparison, reputation, even physical location or opening hours of your store. Digital Advertising helps you build, shape, maintain, own the online space. And if you don’t, you can be sure your competitors do.
Why does Digital Advertising appeal to you so much?
It’s current. Diversified. Ever changing. Challenging. You get to be involved in important marketing decisions and execute campaigns that have a tremendous impact on the bottom line. And that’s extremely motivating. On top of that, as an Digital Marketer, you need to possess a vast array of knowledge to make sure the entire scope of the project is covered. Basically, you learn something new every single day – it’s never boring.
I spend my time with my family and try to read a lot, mainly politics and sociology. I nearly entered diplomacy at Uni! Apart from that, I love to play musical quizzes with my friends: always great laughs. And I have kind of begun wakeboarding… kind of. Boarding is fine; trouble actually being the wake.
Three things that make you tick?
Spending time with my lovely partner. Kicking a ball with my kids. Playing with my dog.
Love everything that goes into an oven! But I would probably go for ‘Chicons au gratin’, white witloof, ham, Bechamel sauce and grated cheese… in the oven, of course. Goes extremely well with a Duvel.
If you could host a dinner with any three people, who would you choose and why?
Apart from my partner, family and friends? I would pick Thom Yorke, because I absolutely love his work; Charlie Kauffman, which movie scenarios are stunningly brilliant; and the Monty Pythons – non-sense humour at its finest. Curious to see what the atmosphere would be like…
If given the chance to skip work for a day, how would you spend the entire day?
All of the above! Or maybe play petanque with my family and friends, sipping a Pastis, and have a big BBQ on the beach at the end of the day.
